The Church Usher is the first official representative of Second Baptist Church that anyone sees upon arrival for worship services and special events held at the Church. The usher has a critical role in making people feel welcome at Second Baptist. Ushers assist the Pastor in placing the congregation in an open frame of mind to receive the message and all that the service offers. The Ushers meet the members and visitors with a pleasant smile, warm welcome, and direct them to a comfortable seat. Ushers ensure entry and exit during services at the appropriate times, and the order of service is according to the Pastor's wishes. Ushers introduce visitors to the Church by providing a microphone for personal introductions and a visitor's card, which is a record of their visit with our Church family. Ushers collect the offering; provide hymnals, collection envelopes, change, and other amenities required for distribution during the service. Ushers provide an invaluable service of honor, integrity, cordiality and honesty to Second Baptist Church. The heart of an Usher is that of a servant, and honors God through his/her work for the Lord Jesus Christ (Colossians 3:24). Second Baptist Church Ushers have a true love for the people of the Church and a desire to promote an atmosphere of reverence and worship in the house of God. The Usher's theme verse, may very well be Psalms 84:10; “I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.” Elections of Officers are conducted during the month of December each year. Each Officer serves a term of one (1) year. An Officer may serve multiple terms, if elected by the Usher membership.
